Man, 87, struck by hit-and-run driver in Newton

An 87-year-old man suffered serious injuries after a woman drove her car over him in Newton and fled the scene, according to police. The man was struck at 7:15 p.m. as he crossed Walnut Street between Centre Street and Floral Street, Newton police said. Witnesses told police that the woman turned her blue two-door Honda onto Floral Street and pulled over to the side of the road, but fled when the victim was being tended to. The victim was taken to Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center with serious internal injuries, police said.
