Authorities said that at some point Trooper Barry Meserve shot and killed Ouellette. Meserve, a 15-year veteran of the State Police, has been placed on paid administrative leave until an investigation is completed.

Ouellette and Haskell had lived in the apartment for about two months. Authorities said children ages 2 and 4 were in the apartment and unharmed.
