A group of youths playing with an airsoft gun caused a scare in Hingham on Thursday afternoon, sending an elementary school into lockdown, police said. Employees at the Foster Elementary School notified police at 3:10 p.m. that a man wearing a ski mask was seen with a gun in the woods behind the school, police said in an e-mail alert. Police said officers surrounded the area and discovered the youths, one of whom had the airsoft gun, which looks like a firearm but shoots plastic pellets. The school had been dismissed for the day but some students and employees were still in the building, police said.
