A Connecticut man walking in the right lane of I-95 north in Providence on Friday night was struck by an SUV and killed, Rhode Island State Police said. Anthony J. Pashalis, 28, of East Lyme, Conn., was hit just before Exit 22 at about 11:30 p.m., Sergeant Michael Reynolds said. The driver of the SUV, a Rhode Island woman, stopped and spoke with police after the crash, Reynolds said. Police are not releasing her name because they do not expect to charge her with a crime. Police are investigating why Pashalis was walking on the highway, which is five lanes wide, where he was hit, Reynolds said. Pashalis was alone, and there were no broken-down cars nearby.
