Man arrested after car hits Dorchester restaurant

Police arrested a man accused of backing his car into the Cantonese Restaurant on Hancock Street in Dorchester on Friday, according to a Boston Police Department press release. Police said the restaurant’s owner called 911 after a car smashed into his establishment. When officers arrived, they found a glassy-eyed and unsteady man smelling of alcohol at the scene, according to the release. The man, Alberto Lopes of Dorchester, 54, told police through an interpreter that he was trying to parallel park the vehicle when he accidentally stepped on the gas and backed into the store. After failing a sobriety test, Lopes was arrested and charged with operating under the influence. He is expected to appear Monday in Dorchester District Court.
