Beverly man sentenced in 2011 stabbing death

A 20-year-old Beverly man was sentenced to 15 to 20 years in state prison Monday for the stabbing of James Vernazzaro, 26, in March 2011, the Essex district attorney’s office said. Sajan Christensen was sentenced Monday in Salem Superior Court after being found guilty of voluntary manslaughter in the death of Vernazzaro on Oct. 11, prosecutors said. Assistant Essex District Attorney Kristen Buxton said in her sentencing argument that Christensen attacked Vernazzaro “over nothing more than words.” In a statement, District Attorney Jonathan W. Blodgett said, “This defendant, along with his friend, viciously attacked an unarmed man and left him to die.”
