US Senator Elizabeth Warren plans to make a rare entrance into the race for Boston City Council and rally for her former law student Michelle Wu and incumbent Councilor Ayanna Pressley on Saturday.
Warren will join Wu at a get-out-the vote rally around 1 p.m. at Judge E.O. Gourdin Park in Roxbury. The senator had been with Wu during her kick-off campaign for the council last year.
Wu, a South End lawyer, was statewide constituency director for Warren’s 2012 Senate campaign and was one Warren’s students at Harvard Law School.
“I am delighted that Senator Warren will be joining me in the final days of my campaign. She has been a great mentor and friend, and her support of my campaign means so much to me,” said Wu in a statement.
Warren will also join Pressley about an hour later in J.P. Licks in Jamaica Plain Saturday afternoon.
Warren has long championed progressive, female candidates.
