Pressure cooker discovery prompts bomb squad response

Police brought in bomb squads and closed surrounding streets after a pressure cooker was discovered Thursday morning along the banks of the Muddy River near Kenmore Square, but the small appliance was apparently not an explosive device, authorities said.

State Police were notified of the suspicious item at about 11:40 a.m. The Boston Police bomb squad was on the scene shortly before noon to secure the device, said State Police spokesman David Procopio. The State Police bomb squad also responded.
