A Springfield police officer is facing possible disciplinary action after reporting that his service firearm was missing from his Connecticut apartment. A spokesman for Commissioner William Fitchet told The Republican that Officer Kevin Merchant attended a four-hour disciplinary hearing Wednesday but that no decision has been made on what, if any, punishment he will receive. The gun disappeared during off-duty hours.
