A 23-year-old man was rescued Sunday morning off Mingo Beach in Beverly after treading water for more than an hour, a fire official said. The man and three friends decided to go for an early morning swim near Endicott College when he became stranded in the 52-degree water nearly 300 yards from shore, Beverly Fire Captain Chris Halloran said. The Beverly Fire Department Marine Rescue Team reached the distressed man minutes after receiving a 911 call and took him to a hospital, where he was treated for hypothermia, according to Halloran. The unidentified man’s friends got out of the water on their own and were unharmed.
