A 29-year-old Methuen man wanted on charges of brutally assaulting a woman in New Hampshire was found Thursday hiding in the bathroom of a deli in New York City after an intensive manhunt, State Police said.
Walton Valentin was found in a deli on Anderson Avenue in the Bronx after a search by troopers and officers from Lawrence, Andover, Methuen, and Salem, N.H., that had begun over the weekend, State Police said.
Valentin is being held pending rendition proceedings in New York. Once he is transferred, he will face charges in New Hampshire and Massachusetts, State Police said in a statement.
Valentin allegedly beat a woman in a Salem, N.H., hotel room Saturday. He also allegedly attempted to shoot the woman, but his gun misfired, and he then beat the woman with the weapon, State Police said. He faces charges of attempted murder and aggravated assault.
He also allegedly committed crimes against the same woman in Massachusetts last month. In that case, he faces charges of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, unlawful carrying of a firearm, violation of a protective order, and home invasion, police said.
