Authorities investigating death of man found in street

The Bristol County district attorney’s office is investigating the death of a man found lying on a New Bedford street late Saturday night. At about 11:45 p.m. police received several calls about gunshots near Winsor and Crapo streets, according to a statement from the district attorney’s office. When officers arrived, they found Sharone Stafford on Winsor Street. Stafford, 31, of New Bedford was taken to St. Luke’s Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, the statement said. The state medical examiner’s office will perform an autopsy to determine the exact cause and manner of Stafford’s death, which is being investigated by New Bedford police and State Police. No additional information was released Sunday.
