R.I. heating assistance now available

Winter heating help is on its way to low-income households in Rhode Island. The state’s Department of Human Services announced Monday that it has released more than $20 million in assistance to local community action programs administering the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program. The move will allow fuel to be delivered to households receiving assistance. The program is funded by the US Department of Health and Human Services. This year’s amount of $20.6 million is more than $3 million less than last year following spending cuts in Washington. Last year, the program served 38,000 Rhode Island households.
