Orient Heights T station reopening

The Orient Heights subway station on the MBTA’s Blue Line is scheduled to reopen Tuesday after being closed for the past eight months while work was done on a $51 million project to overhaul the East Boston station, officials said. Work on the construction project is not scheduled to wrap up until the spring. The project aims to modernize and make fully accessible Orient Heights Station, which had deteriorated over its 60-year history. The station will feature a new overhead pedestrian bridge, four elevators, two escalators, new mechanical and power systems, a renovated train operations building, new platforms, and improvements to the bus access areas. Components of the project are required to bring the station into compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act, as well as with state codes and MBTA standards.
