Newton police said they picked up a rather unusual suspect by the name of Ziggy this morning — and all the culprit had to say for himself was “oink.”
Police were called to the Hagen Road area at 10:45 a.m. after a report that a pig was roaming about unattended, police said. The pet was found in a back yard on the street, police said.
Just 15 minutes later, Ziggy’s owner came to the station to bail him out, said Lieutenant Bruce Apotheker.
Apparently, the adventurous pig had escaped through a hole in the fence of his Park Street home, Apotheker said.
The owner put a leash on Ziggy and walked him home, Apotheker said.
You might say the only crime committed by Ziggy today turned out to be hogging the limelight.
