Vilna Shul is the last remaining synagogue in the Boston city limits. Pat Greenhouse/Globe Staff Marilyn Okonow, genealogist and board member at Vilna Shul, welcomed descendants to the synagogue for Descendants Day. Pat Greenhouse/Globe Staff Murray Dubin of Peabody spotted his grandfather’s name on the men’s plaque at the synagogue. Pat Greenhouse/Globe Staff William Strauss learned that his mother-in-law is the descendant of a Vilna Shul member. Pat Greenhouse/Globe Staff Barry Oshry and his wife, Karen, looked over the documents of his grandfather Jacob Ashrei. They are joined by Barry’s niece, Lauren Oshry (at right). Pat Greenhouse/Globe Staff Adam Kowal (left) and Cynthia Kowal of Newburyport looked over documents of his maternal great-great-grandparents.
