A set of packages delivered to a house in Wareham, wrapped in festive green and red Christmas paper, allegedly turned out to contain some illicit presents: eight to 10 pounds of marijuana.
Police searched 96 Plymouth Ave. on Thursday and found 25 plastic bags of marijuana stuffed in innocuous-looking boxes wrapped in Christmas paper, Wareham police said.
The street value of the drugs was estimated at between $18,000 and $20,000, police said.
The recipient of the marijuana, 23-year-old Zachary Driscoll, was charged with possession of a Class D substance with intent to distribute, police said.
The marijuana was recovered as part of a joint investigation between Wareham and Middleborough police and the US Postal Service.
Driscoll was arraigned in Wareham District Court last week, where he pleaded not guilty.
He is scheduled for a pretrial hearing Jan. 30, according to a clerk at Wareham court.
