What’s open, closed on Christmas

Holiday observed: Wednesday.

Retail stores: Closed.

Supermarkets: Closed.

Convenience stores: Open at owner’s discretion.

Taverns, bars: Open at owner’s discretion.

Banks: Closed.

Stock market: Closed.

Municipal, state, federal offices: Closed.

Libraries: Closed.

Schools: Closed.

Mail: Post offices closed; express delivery only.

Boston traffic rules: Sunday parking rules in effect.

MBTA: The T, buses, commuter rail, and the RIDE will operate on a Sunday schedule. Hingham and Charlestown boat service will not be operating.

Trash/recycling collection:Trash and Recycling collection will be canceled in all sections of the City on Christmas Day. For the rest of the week there will be a regular collection schedule in Back Bay, Bay Village, Fenway, South End, Mission Hill, Leather District, and Roxbury. The North End, Beacon Hill, Bay Village, and Chinatown will have a regular collection schedule on Monday and Friday. Charlestown will be delayed a day. Pickup in Allston/Brighton, Dorchester, East Boston, South Boston, Jamaica Plain, West Roxbury and Hyde Park will be delayed Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday, unless you live in Jamaica Plain and your trash and recycling is collected two times per week.
