A 45-year-old Belchertown man suffered serious injuries when he was struck by a tractor-trailer while walking on Interstate 290 in Worcester on Thursday morning, State Police said.
Police arrived at the eastbound side of the highway shortly before 9 a.m., where they found the man.
He was transported to UMass Memorial Medical Center in Worcester, said State Police spokesman Dave Procopio. The man’s condition was not available as of Thursday evening, but he was expected to survive.
The driver of the tractor-trailer pulled over after striking the man and cooperated with police.
He was able to partially avoid the man when he stepped into the highway.
“Evidence suggests [the victim] entered the travel lane just prior to being struck,” Procopio said.
As of Thursday evening, State Police said charges had not been filed and had not released the man’s identity.
The crash remains under investigation, police said. No further details were immediately available.
