The One Fund Boston distributed $61 million in July.

The One Fund Boston charity announced today that it expects to distribute additional funds in July to survivors of the Boston Marathon bombings and the families of those killed.

In a statement, the fund said its board of directors and community council recently met to discuss a future distribution of the more than $12 million donated to the fund since its initial $61 million disbursement in July. It said that even more donations are expected as the April 15 anniversary of the attacks approaches.

As that painful date nears, the fund is also exploring the best ways to assist survivors and families, the fund said.

“The severity of the injuries suffered by so many last April is almost too much to comprehend and we understand money alone cannot replace all that was lost,” James Gallagher, executive vice president of John Hancock and president of One Fund Boston, said in the statement. “But the outpouring of love and overwhelming generosity and support from thousands of individuals, businesses and non-profit organizations from all over the world helps offer hope for a brighter future.”

Established by Mayor Thomas M. Menino and Governor Deval Patrick in the immediate aftermath of the bombings as a single destination for the public’s generosity, the fund collected almost $61 million in its first 90 days, all of which was distributed to 230 people directly affected by the bombings, the fund said.

Also today, the charity announced that a One Fund team from the charity would run in this year’s Marathon.

The Boston Athletic Association, organizer of the annual Marathon, has provided 50 charity numbers to One Fund for the formation of a team of runners. The fund will accept applications to join that team at OneFundBoston.org until 5 p.m. on Jan. 7.
