Cambridge YWCA evacuated after water main break

Firefighters evacuated 98 people from a YWCA in Cambridge early this afternoon after a water main broke, filling the center’s boiler room with 5 feet of water, Assistant Fire Chief Gerry Mahoney said.

Residents of the building, 7 Temple St., were evacuated shortly after noon.

Cold weather caused the water main to break, Mahoney said. The residents will have to stay out of the building for at least 48 hours.
