A 23-year-old Bennington, Vt., man is facing charges after heroin was found in the car he was driving in the Western Massachusetts city of Holyoke, State Police said.
Deven Moffitt is facing charges that include conspiracy to violate the drug laws and possession with intent to distribute a Class A drug.
He was driving on Hampden Street in Holyoke at about 10 p.m. Wednesday, when Trooper Charles Murphy stopped him for a motor vehicle violation.
State Police, along with officers from the Holyoke police, searched his green Geo Prizm and found 202 bags containing what State Police believe to be heroin. Each bag had a street value of $6 to $10, said Lieutenant Dan Richard, a State Police spokesman.
Moffitt was arrested and transported to the Northampton State Police barracks.
Kristen Gables, 21, and Cheri Lizotte, 20, both of Vermont, were also in the car. They were issued criminal citations for possession with intent to distribute heroin, among other charges.
Moffitt was arraigned on the charges Thursday in Holyoke District Court, Richard said. He was released on his own recognizance.
A pretrial conference has been slated for March 1, according to the Hampden district attorney’s office.
