Yarmouth man faces child porn charges

Allegedly admits to taking photos at local beach

A Yarmouth man allegedly told investigators after his arrest on child pornography charges that he had taken photographs of young children at a Cape Cod beach, according to records filed in federal court in Boston.

Adam Polakowski, 45, is being held without bail by US marshals pending a detention hearing scheduled for Thursday in US District Court. He was arrested by agents from the US Department of Homeland Security at his home this week.

According to an affidavit by DHS Special Agent David Di Sanzo, Polakowski came to the attention of law enforcement in August when they discovered that he had allegedly exchanged 36 e-mails with an Arizona man already targeted for child pornography.

Authorities allege that three of the e-mails included 23 images and one video of a child being sexually assaulted by a man. The child, according to authorities, has been identified by the National Center for Missing and Exploited children as a “victim of child pornography.’’

The two men also wrote, in graphic detail, about their sexual interest in children. In one e-mail, the Arizona man allegedly described his plan to lurk in the parking lot of a family-oriented park, waiting for a child to break away from the parents.

“I open the door when she approaches and cut off her path,’’ the man wrote. “A snatch and she’s mine. I break out the plastic wrap and in no time she’s hopelessly bound.’’

When agents and state troopers searched Polakowski’s home this week, they allegedly found more than 800 images of child pornography on his computer, images that showed children between the ages of 4 and 14 engaging in sexual activity, the affidavit states.

Polakowski allegedly agreed to speak with investigators after being read his Miranda rights, according to the investigator’s affidavit, and allegedly admitted to collecting child pornography since at least 2007, some of which he said he had shared with other people.

He also admitted that he “engaged in fantasies with others about the violent abduction and rape of children,’’ Di Sanzo wrote.

“Polakowski further admitted to taking surreptitious photographs of unknown girls at a local beach,” the agent wrote.

Agents said that inside Polakowski’s utility van they found a baseball bat, rope, and rolls of tape. Polakowski also had allegedly created a photo collage, pasting an image of a child into a picture of the van’s interior, placing the child next to the objects.

He also asked the Arizona man if he had “any thoughts” on how to use the tools against children, agents alleged.

Polakowski is charged with one count of possession of child pornography and one count of distribution of child pornography.
