Amber alert canceled for missing R.I. boy

Rhode Island police canceled the Amber alert for 6-year-old Daniel Britt on Thursday night, after the boy was found safe in Washington state.

The mother picked up the boy on Jan. 3 and was scheduled to return the child on Jan. 8, but did not return. When the mother and boy were not located by Wednesday, Rhode Island police issued an AMBER alert.

Officials said tonight that they tracked Andria Britt down to the Seattle area. After conversations with FBI agents, Andria Britt surrendered to authorities.

Police said they believe that Britt and his mother were in Washington for the past four to five days.

Andria Britt is currently in police custody in Washington, police said. Rhode Island police said Britt will be assessed by child services in Washington and arrangements made for his return to Rhode Island.
