Car rented by Angela Menino stolen

A 2013 Hyundai Tucson rented by Angela Menino, the wife of the former mayor, was reported stolen Wednesday from outside the couple’s longtime home on Chesterfield Street in Hyde Park, said Boston police and a law enforcement official briefed on the case.

Police said that the vehicle was discovered missing about 7:55 a.m. It was last seen about 1 p.m. Tuesday. The vehicle was parked on Farrin Street, a cul-de-sac that intersects with Chesterfield, at the home of former mayor Thomas M. Menino.

Police said the Hyundai was rented from Enterprise Rent-A-Car and has a Massachusetts license plate number of 316-NR1.

A law enforcement source familiar with the incident said Angela Menino was identified as the person who rented the vehicle. Her son, Thomas Menino Jr., who is a Boston police officer, reported it missing.

A spokesman for Menino did not respond to requests for comment, and no one answered the door at Menino’s home early Wednesday evening.

Several neighbors had not heard about the theft and were surprised, describing the neighborhood, in Hyde Park’s Readville section, as quiet.

Police broadcast an announcement to officers to be on the lookout for the vehicle, but it had not been recovered by Wednesday afternoon.
