Sewer main break in Lexington closes busy roadway

A break in a large pressurized sewer main in Lexington Thursday afternoon forced the closing of major roads in the area, Lexington police said.

As a result of the break, sewage spilled onto Bedford Street in front of the Quality Inn, according to a statement from Town Manager Carl Valente’s office.

Police shut off access to Route 4 and Route 225 at about 4:30 p.m., closing the Route 128-Interstate 95 offramp. Police encouraged drivers to find alternate routes until the sewer and the surface of the road can be repaired.

The major raods were expected to remain closed overnight as repairs to the sewer main continued, State Police said.
