Police probe suspicious item on Red Line tracks

The Red Line inbound between Harvard and Alewife stations was shut down this morning after a suspicious package was found on the tracks at Davis Square Station.

The package was described as a brown paper bag with tape wrapped around it, said MBTA spokesman Joe Pesaturo.

The package was reported at 11:15 a.m. While Transit Police examined the package, shuttle buses were used to ferry passengers between Harvard and Alewife, said MBTA spokeswoman Kelly Smith.

After an investigation, Transit Police determined the package was safe. Service resumed at 12:05 p.m., said Smith.
