Firefighters battle 4-alarm blaze in Lawrence

Lawrence firefighters are battling a four-alarm blaze at a residence on Hall Street, police said.

The fire at 32 Hall St. was reported at about 5 p.m, said Lawrence Police Chief James Fitzpatrick.

A family was home at the time of the fire, but they made it out of the wooden structure. No injuries were reported, said Fitzpatrick. He said he was unsure how many people were in the family.

Firefighters are venting the fire through holes in the roof. That will allow them to get some smoke out and identify a cause, said Fitzpatrick.

“With these old-style wooden homes the fire gets all up into the walls and takes over,” he said.

It’s the second large fire this month in Lawrence. On Jan. 13, a five-alarm blaze gutted an old mill building about 1 ½ miles away.
