Brockton woman charged with assaulting her child

A Brockton woman was arrested over the weekend after she allegedly assaulted her child while inside a Shaw’s supermarket, police said.

Marie Mars, 42, is being charged with one count of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, and one count of assault and battery, after witnesses allegedly saw her hitting her 4-year-old son against a door in the supermarket on Belmont Street, said Brockton Police Lieutenant Paul Bonanca.

Police received calls at about 4 p.m. Saturday from shoppers in the market and responded to the scene, said Bonanca.

The child had no visible injuries and did not receive medical attention, police said. Officers called the Department of Children and Families to inform workers of the incident, said Bonanca.

Mars is to be arraigned in today, police said.
