One person was killed this morning in a crash on Interstate 93 North in Woburn that involved a box truck and a passenger car, leading to the closure of the two righthand lanes, State Police said. A short time later, a trash hauler jackknifed on the Southeast Expressway southbound, forcing the closure of the two lefthand lanes near South Bay Center, police said.
The first crash took place near Exit 37C in Woburn shortly before 10 a.m., State Police said.
As of 10 a.m., the two lanes were closed for the investigation. State Police said traffic impacts are expected to continue until the investigation is completed.
The box truck rolled over to the right of the highway.
It is not yet known which vehicle the fatally injured person was driving, State Police said.
Around 10:45 a.m., State Police reported that the trash hauler crashed on the Expressway, which is the name for Interstate 93 leading south from the city. No injuries were immediately reported, but State Police said the investigation into the second crash is ongoing.
