Power outages hit Everett, Beverly

Several thousand electric customers in Everett lost power this morning after a transmission line briefly went down, said National Grid spokesman Jake Navarro.

“We don’t know the specific cause, but sometimes a tree branch can fall on the line and cause it to short out,” Navarro said.

About 3,900 customers were without power between 7:50 and 8:30 a.m. today, Navarro said.

Police were flooded with calls reporting the outage this morning, Everett Police Lieutenant James Gabriel said.

The National Grid outage website also reported that about 1,200 customers lost power today in Beverly.

“A [circuit breaker] on top of a pole failed just before 11,” Navarro said.

Repairs to the equipment were finished a little after 1 p.m., restoring power to the area.
