Vermont teacher fired over e-mail use is reinstated

A Vermont high school social studies teacher fired in 2012 for violating the school’s e-mail policy has won his job back. An arbitrator decided in favor of David Warren of Danville High School on Jan. 26, finding school officials’ assertions insufficient. Warren used e-mail to correspond with members of a band he played in. He was warned not to use school e-mail for personal gain. In 2012, Warren’s school e-mail was used during the purchase of a gun from an online broker. Warren said his account with the broker had been established long before; he did not realize the account was still using his school e-mail address.
