Police investigate suspicious package in Dorchester home

Boston police recovered a suspicious item at a home in Dorchester this afternoon, authorities said.

Officers responded to the home at 12 Batchelder St. at about 2:50 p.m., according to a police spokesman.

The spokesman said the device was deemed suspicious, but he had no additional information on the object.

A Boston police special operations vehicle was parked outside the tan colored 2 and a half story home at about 4:30 p.m., and detectives were seen carrying objects out of the house, including one item that appeared to be a black duffel bag or suitcase.

A man standing outside the house who identified himself as the brother of the property owner said construction workers were doing renovations inside when they found a handful of flares taped together.
