Car ends up in sinkhole at Burlington Mall

A water main break in the Burlington Mall’s parking lot caused a car to plunge into a sinkhole this afternoon, police said.

The break occurred in front of the Sears store, a mall official said.

A Toyota Camry is teetering over the hole, a police dispatcher said. No injuries have been reported. It is unclear if anyone was inside the vehicle.

The mall will be closed for the remainder of the day. Burlington public works employees and police will investigate the cause of the break, said Linnea Kelliher, a mall spokeswoman.

Police and mall officials are not sure if the incident was related to the weather.
