Suffolk jury acquits defendant in Dorchester murder case

A Suffolk County jury has acquitted 23-year-old Mattapan man who was charged in a May 2010 slaying in Dorchester.

Lavonrence Perkins was charged with first-degree murder and related offenses for the May 7, 2010 shooting death of 22-year-old Cordell McAfee, the Suffolk district attorney’s office said.

The acquittal came on the jury’s first full day deliberations.

It was the second trial for Perkins. A jury had previously deadlocked on the charge in 2012.

McAfee was sitting on the porch of a Roseland Street home with a relative when two gunmen walked up and began shooting shortly before 6:30 p.m. that day.

McAfee was struck twice and died of his injuries. The second man fled and was not injured.
