Two men hurt after allegedly fleeing from Cape break-in at 100 mph

Two men were seriously injured Tuesday when their car rolled over several times after they entered the Bourne South Rotary at an estimated 100 miles per hour, a crash that took place about 10 minutes after they were allegedly spotted breaking into a Pocasset home, Bourne police said.

The incident began around 11:30 a.m. when a homeowner saw two men leaving the home on Clubhouse Drive, according to Detective Sergeant John Stowe. The homeowner, who called police, followed the men as they drove off.

With the homeowner keeping visual contact with the car — and providing regular updates to police — the suspect’s small four-door sedan roared into the Bourne South Rotary, said Stowe. Police had not been pursuing the vehicle and the homeowner was not driving at an excessive speed, he said.

First responders found two men still inside the vehicle. The driver, identified as Kristopher Santillo, 25, of Dartmouth was wearing his seat belt, Stowe said. The passenger, identified as Sage Vandersluis, 35, of New Bedford was not. Stowe said his department had investigated Vandersluis for house break-ins several years ago. Both men were wearing gloves and police said they recovered a bag with a crowbar and other tools allegedly used to break into homes.
