Rhode Island is considering options on pension deal, Chafee says

Governor Lincoln Chafee said Rhode Island is considering various options on how to proceed with lawsuits brought over the state’s landmark pension overhaul, after a proposed deal was rejected by members of police unions. Chafee said Tuesday that officials are analyzing the police vote and how to move forward. On Monday, lawyers for six groups that sued over the 2011 law announced that the proposed settlement was rejected by police but approved by the other five groups. Chafee said one option might be to settle with the other groups and continue with the litigation with the police group or any other group that does not settle.
