Private investigator accused of stalking sheriff employees

A Scituate private investigator is due in court today to face charges that he has been stalking and making anonymous threatening phone calls to employees at the Suffolk County Sheriff’s Department, where he once worked.

Joseph Allen was arrested today following a year-long investigation by the sheriff’s department, State Police, and prosecutors, according to Suffolk District Attorney Daniel F. Conley’s office.

Allen is to be arraigned this afternoon in Boston Municipal Court.

According to a spokesman for Suffolk County Sheriff Steve Tompkins, Allen worked as a correctional officer for the department from 1991 to 2004, when he retired. The spokesman declined further comment.
