Police arrest man who threatened girlfriend with gun

Boston police arrested a 22-year-old Boston man who was hiding in his apartment Tuesday night, after he allegedly threatened his girlfriend with a gun and then drove away, police said.

Boston police received a call about 10:15 p.m. Tuesday from a 29-year-old woman who said her boyfriend had just threatened her with a gun, police said.

Officers responded to the women’s Dorchester residence, but when they arrived the suspect, identified as Melvin Fuentes, had fled the scene, police said.

Officers located Fuentes’ residence on Blue Hill Avenue in Roxbury and knocked on the door, police said. Though officers said they heard him moving inside the apartment, he did not come to the door.

After several more tries, a man opened the door and told officers Fuentes was hiding in a back bedroom, police said. Officers convinced him to surrender, but they did not find the alleged firearm, police said.

Fuentes was arrested and charged with one count of a assault with a dangerous weapon. He is scheduled to be arraigned today in Roxbury Municipal Court.
