Transportation officials are urging drivers to avoid the Massachusetts Turnpike in downtown Boston for one more weekend as the Prudential Tunnel overhaul nears an end.
Beginning at 9 p.m. Saturday and ending about noon on Sunday, the eastbound side of Interstate 90 will be reduced to one lane inside the Prudential Tunnel, Massachusetts Department of Transportation officials said in a statement this morning.
The westbound lanes of the highway will be fully operational and all exit and entrance ramps to the Turnpike in downtown Boston will be open as usual, officials said.
This is the last weekend of a two month long project working to upgrade the tunnel’s ceiling, the state says.
Officials urge motorists using the Mass Pike through Boston during these time to seek alternate routes, take public transportation, or allow additional travel time.
