Raynham man killed by alleged drunk driver

A 63-year-old Raynham man was killed after being struck by the car of a Norton man who was driving under the influence on Route 140 in Mansfield, police said. At 11:57 p.m. Friday, Nicholas G. Salvo, 23, was traveling south on Route 140 and approached the intersection of Norfolk Street at high speed, police said in a statement. Salvo, according to witnesses, ran a red light and crashed into the victim, police said. The victim, whose name was not released pending notification of next of kin, was pronounced dead at Sturdy Memorial Hospital in Attleboro, police said. Salvo was taken to the Mansfield Police Department, where he was held on $10,000 bail, police said. Salvo is expected to be arraigned Monday in Attleboro District Court on charges of motor vehicle homicide while operating under the influence and reckless operation, speeding, failure to stop for a red light, and a marked lanes violation, police said.
