Boston police say 292 guns have been turned in

People have turned in 292 guns in Boston’s gun buyback program since it began March 24, Boston police said.

“To those who’ve taken advantage of the opportunity to make our community a safer place, we say, ‘Thank you,’” police said Wednesday in a statement.

Those who hand over guns in the program are entitled to $200 Visa gift cards.

Police also said they had seized 186 illegal guns during arrests so far this year.

Police said the latest gun seizures came in three separate arrests this week involving two Dorchester men and a 16-year-old from Roxbury.
