One-alarm fire hits dog kennel in Marshfield

The state fire marshal’s office is investigating a one-alarm blaze this morning at a Marshfield dog kennel, officials said.

The fire at Elja Kennels on Clay Pitt Road was reported at 8:45 a.m., according to Firefighter Kevin Weyton, a department spokesman.

The blaze at the two-story building was knocked down within 20 minutes, but rescuers were still at the scene late this morning, working to assist the animals, he said.

No damage estimate was immediately available.

Marshfield fire officials are joining the fire marshal’s office in investigating the cause of the blaze, Weyton said.
