Girl pulled from Long Island Sound after canoe capsizes

The operators of a ferry are being credited with saving the life of a 12-year-old girl who fell out of a canoe and into the waters of Long Island Sound over the weekend. The Day of New London reported that the ferry John H was returning to New London from Orient Point Sunday when the crew spotted the girl and her dog in the water. They called the US Coast Guard and then maneuvered to the girl, tossing her a life ring and pulling her aboard. She was treated and released from Lawrence and Memorial Hospital after showing signs of shock and hypothermia. The German Shepherd swam to shore.
