Driver killed in single-car crash in Oakham

A driver was killed and his passenger was injured in a car crash on a winding rural road in Oakham Sunday, police said.

Shamus O’Toole, 21, was killed when the 1997 Toyota Camry he was driving eastbound on New Braintree Road struck a tree at 3 p.m., Sergeant Kevin Tucker said.

His passenger, Andrew Kane, 23, is in stable condition at UMass Memorial Medical Center in Worcester and is expected to survive, police said.

Both men are from Marshfield. No other vehicles were involved in the crash, Tucker said.

The cause of the accident, including if speed and alcohol contributed, remain under investigation Sunday evening by a State Police accident reconstruction team.
