Three-year-old girl hit by car in East Taunton

A 3-year-old girl was hit late this morning by a car in Taunton and transported via helicopter to Hasbro Children’s Hospital in Rhode Island, according to Sergeant Kevin Medas of the Taunton Police Department.

At 11:38 a.m., police responded to a call about a pedestrian being hit in the intersection of Stevens and Pinehill streets in East Taunton, according to Medas.

Lauren Fonseca , 24, of Taunton, the driver of the car, remained at the scene of the accident, said Medas. No arrests are expected because the incident was determined to be an accident, said Medas.

“The little girl ran out of the house because she saw her father across the street,” said Medas, who said the child was then inadvertently hit by Fonseca.

Medas said details on the girl’s condition and the nature of her injuries were not available. Police continue to investigate the incident.
