Lowell police arrested a 53-year-old man Saturday night, hours after he allegedly stabbed a woman to death in his apartment, according to the Middlesex district attorney’s office.

Police responded to James Sheedy’s Walker Street home about 9:30 p.m. to conduct a well-being check on a person in the apartment. When officers arrived, they found the victim dead with multiple stab wounds, the district attorney’s office said. The victim has not been identified.

Officers arrested Sheedy a short time later, the district attorney’s office said. He has been charged with murder and is to be arraigned Monday in Lowell District Court.
