2 people rescued after boat capsizes off Plum Island

Two people were rescued this afternoon after their boat capsized off Plum Island, a US Coast Guard spokesman said.

The two boaters were out on the water when their boat capsized, dumping them into the waves. Luckily, a nearby sailboat saw this unfold, and called for help, Coast Guard spokesman Ross Ruddell said in a telephone interview.

The boaters were taken to land, where they were treated by EMS workers. They did not suffer severe injuries, Ruddell said.

He was not sure why the boat capsized.
