3-year-old boy dies in Saugus car crash

SAUGUS, Mass. (AP) — Police say a 3-year-old boy has been killed in a late night head-on crash in Saugus.

Police say a Volvo and a Ford Explorer collided on Walnut Street just before 11 p.m. Monday.

The boy was in the Volvo. His name was not made public.

The driver of the Volvo, a 43-year-old Lynn man, was not hurt. The driver of the Ford, identified by police as 40-year-old Daniel Ortega, suffered minor injuries and was treated at Massachusetts General Hospital.

Ortega was arrested and charged with driving without a license, but he has not been charged with causing the crash.

Police say the Volvo may have had some sort of mechanical problem.
