Woman, 90, dies after being hit by delivery truck

A 90-year-old woman died after she was hit by a FedEx delivery truck while crossing the street in Somerville this morning, police said.

Helen Monagle, of Medford, was walking near the intersection of Holland and Dover streets at about 10:20 a.m., when the truck turned and hit her, Somerville Police Chief Charles Femino said in a telephone interview.

Monagle was taken to a local hospital, where she was later pronounced dead, police said.

The truck’s driver stopped after hitting the woman and has been cooperating with police. He has not been charged in the accident. Somerville police are investigating, Femino said.

FedEx officials expressed their sympathy in an e-mailed statement. “Our heartfelt thoughts are with all of those involved in this morning’s incident,” officials said in the statement.

Femino previously said the woman was 92 years old, but her family confirmed that she was 90.
